Discussions of N. Sathyadevan, managing director of Nabeel Printing Press, LLC, Ajman with Venkat Raghavan about what made him constructive after spending 48 years in UAE.

 

An elongated period resident of UAE, he was the former finance & ddministration manager of Ras-Al-Khaimah Port Authority (Mina Saqr). He is also a well-known philanthropist and is involved in many social and charitable activities in the UAE and India. N. Sathyadevan, hailing from Kerala and holding his Post Graduation in Commerce from Kerala University, is a prominent businessman in the UAE and Kerala. He is a director of KIMS Hospitals in Kerala and in GCC countries, Lords Hospital at Trivandrum, Sree Narayana Medical College (SNIMS) at Ernakulum and Vidya Engineering College in Trissur.

With all his dreams bagged behind, he came to Dubai in the year 1967 and joined with MMI in the accounts department. Later in the year 1977, he was promoted as the finance and administration manager in Mina Saqr port. During his tenure with Mina Saqr port, he was able to make several contacts which prompted him to start Nabeel Printing Press in the year 1990. The Company started with 10 employees and as of date has over one hundred fifty employees. He has several hobbies like watching movies, playing badminton and travelling around the World.

Talking about his company, he added, “Our printing press is a specialized state-of art printing press, equipped with all the latest technologies in pre-press, printing & post-press processes all under one roof. Being in the printing industry for more than 25 years, we understand our client’s needs well and have customized our facilities to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Quality has always been our prime concern and it is evident on all the jobs printed by us no matter how big or small they are. We produce shopping bags, ring binders with hard case, post cards with envelopes, photo frames, note pads, menu covers, magazines, loop stitching, hard case boxes, hard cases binding, credit card welcome packs, compliment boxes, certificate holders, calendars, brochures, boxes, and many more. Apart from this we have invested in many machines from leading brands like Heidelberg, KBA, Muller Martini and many more to meet our customer requirements. Our motto is to deliver the job on time without any compromise on quality and consistency.”

He further added about the trends, “Earlier, customers mostly used to prefer their jobs to be printed in high volumes but as the years passed by their needs have changed. Nowadays the market is a mix of different requirements. Some clients request for short run, quick turnaround jobs increasing the need for digital print machines, whereas on the other hand some clients still demand for long run jobs as well. There are again drastic changes in the pre press and CTP machines that has made the jobs easier with the software versions having more enhanced features. Also, during the early days there were multiple operators working on a single job and with the available automation today, all the jobs have been simplified and time spend on outputting a job has been reduced to minimum.”

Speaking about the company challenges, retaining employees, and plans about the expansion, he added, “Before the recession period we were enormously doing well and making good but after the 2008 recession, as with any industry, we have come down a little. However, we were able to overcome the recession through the benevolence of our loyal and good corporate clients. Also, I feel proud to say that we have grown to this success due to the dedicated staffs and quality of our service with the obvious support of our loyal satisfied customers. We are always looking forward to add customers to our existing clientele. The credit period is always a concern for all in this industry and we have been able to overcome it by selecting the right customers. Also, we meet the industry norms of the credit period. We have never felt any issues in retention of our employees as we are offering accommodation and other facilities as per the UAE Labour Law. We have and would always be in a mode of continuous improvement to upgrade our facilities to the satisfaction of all stakeholders of our business to have all round growth. Also, we are planning to go for ISO certification when we are ready to take this quality excellence as we are confident to achieve it.”

Talking about the happiest moment, success, international market, he said, “The happiest moments in my life was when I had joined the Mina Saqr which created good contacts and healthy environment. The success comes through the continuous hard work and creative thinking and knowing one has more satisfied stakeholders. Currently, we are working with global clients in Saudi Arabia, Oman, and African region. We also see growth in the packaging industry and might think of diversifying at the right time to do so.”

Signing off, his advice to others is not to undermine their business potential by having short term gains but to work towards steady long term gains thereby promoting a healthy business competition.
