Drupa announces scrapping of its three-year frequency plan

Drupa organiser Messe Dusseldorf has scrapped plans to change the show to a three-year cycle, and will stick with a four-year rotation.  PrintWeek had been unable to find any major exhibitors that were in favour of the three-year frequency announced last year, and there was a view that the world’s biggest print expo could have been diminished if it had pressed ahead with the plans in the face of opposition from key exhibitors.

KBA and Xerox join forces for B1 sheetfed inkjet press, VariJet

The B1 digital space has a new entrant – KBA and Xerox have partnered on a sheetfed inkjet press, the VariJet 106.

The press is based on KBA’s Rapida platform combined with inkjet technology from Xerox’s Impika division, and is targeted at the folding cartons market. The two firms cited research from Smithers Pira that predicted growth of 40% in the digitally printed folded cartons market.

Epson releases report on study

In a Epson study on the state of printing in the workplace conducted by market research company Kantar AMRB, 95% of respondents in UAE and KSA claim that printers are vital in terms of helping them to effectively work. 

This is in line with a similar study Epson did in Europe where 77% of respondents stated that printers were important in terms of helping them work more productively, with an overwhelming majority (83%) felt a “paperless office is unrealistic”.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) released an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the construction of 3D-printed Laboratories, to conduct research on drones and 3D-printing technologies, at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site project in the world.

The Solar Park will generate 1,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 and 5,000MW by 2030.

Ban lifted for newspaper

Sudan’s highest court has allowed a leading newspaper to resume publishing, nearly five months after the authorities banned it from printing, the newspaper’s editor said on Monday.

Xeikon to show new machine

Xeikon will unveil its newly developed Flatbed die-cut unit, the Xeikon FDU at drupa 2016, which will be held in Messe Düsseldorf, between May 31st to June 10th.

Developed to aid end-to-end printing and converting for folding carton printers, the flatbed unit is suitable for nearline finishing of digital work but can also accommodate offset litho runs, according to Xeikon.

Kodak announces its plans for Prosper sale

Kodak has hoisted a ‘for sale’ sign over its Prosper inkjet business, which was previously lauded as one of the manufacturer’s “four growth engines”.

The group announced the sell-off plan alongside its year-end results. It said it was already in talks with potential buyers about its Prosper inkjet business, which includes imprinting heads and the Prosper high-speed inkjet web presses.

The legacy Versamark inkjet business is not included in the deal, and will remain with Kodak. The

    The first ever 3D printing conference cum exhibition ‘3D Print UAE’ took place on 17th and 18th August 2015 at Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE which attracted a number of like-minded 3D Printing professionals from over 40 nations.

    3D Print UAE exhibition cum conference is a concept aimed at providing a broad scale platform for the manufacturing sector and consumer world across the ME region. 

    3D Print UAE gave an opportunity for the additive manufacturing experts from across the globe to converge on this regional platform to showcase their solutions, analyze the benefits and discuss the opportunities in the Middle East. It also provided the opportunity for a listen- in to first-hand experience from industry leaders, connect solutions for overcoming challenges in the field, and enhance the brand and  business portfolio. 

     Steffan Ritt, VP-head of global marketing and communications, SLM Solutions Group commented:  “Since, this is the first kind of event in this region, it has attracted less number of visitors. However, the visitors and participants were more positive.
