UPP signs MOU with Kalima to publish Arabic translations

Kalima is a non-profit state initiative funded by theAbu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), which translates, publishes and distributes works of classic and contemporary writing from other languages into Arabic.

Each year Kalima translates and publishes more than 100 titles of classic, modern and contemporary writing from around the world with the aim to provide more availability and choice of book titles to Arabic readers.

UPP will sponsor and absorb printing graduates from HCT

The 8th batch of printing students have started training for Higher Colleges of Technology’s (HCT) ‘Work Readiness Programme”.  An agreement has been signed by HCT and Abu Dhabi based United Printing & Publishing (UPP) to sponsor a group of students to study at the ‘Work Readiness Program’ in the fields of printing and publishing to qualify for the HCT certificate Injaz. Emirates Printing Press in Dubai has been awarded the 2009 CIP4 international Print Production Innovation (CIPPI) Award at Print 09 in Chicago.

Only eight companies in the world received the awards this year which are given annually to the printer, publisher or prepress service who applies with the most compelling case study in three topical categories and four regions.

Ink manufacturer to produce, allot flexo, gravure inks at news premises

Ink manufacturer Torda Inks has moved to a 20,000sqm factory space in Dubai, UAE.

The ink manufacturer will be manufacturing and distributing flexo, gravure inks and paste inks from the site.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, CEO of Torda Inks, Fredrik Danielsen said: “We’ve seen the economy growing in the Middle East but up until now we’ve had capacity constraints and could not focus on the region as much as we would have liked to. But now we are able to.”

Dubai-based Otra-Conrad Jacobson has begun supplying paper to the newspaper, Times of Oman.

Abu Dhabi-based United Printing and Publishing (UPP) have purchased and installed a multi-unit Continent hybrid press line.

The press line – supplied by KBA – became operational in May this year and is said to have cost the company around $27million.

UPP is the third newspaper house in the Middle East to install a KBA hybrid press for coldset and heatset production. The new Continent at UPP is considered to be one of the most advanced newspaper press lines in the region

Publication house says five-colour just right

Tellurian Publication House has installed a five-colour KBA Rapida 75 coater.

This according to KBA's local distributor, Giffin Graphics.

Al Omeira says Ryobi 754D ‘is adding to company capacity’

Al Omeira Printing has installed a Ryobi 754D.

This is according to the technical manager of the Abu Dhabi-based company, Priyadarshi Singh.

The company – which purchased and installed the machine at the start of July – heaped praise on the 754D, saying that it had “added to the company’s capacity considerably”.

Isra Middle East has installed a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM52-2.

This according to the company’s client service manager, Zafar Amerjee.

The machine, which was purchased in November was installed at the Sharjah-based printing press in June.
