Mepco Gulf, distributor for Mondi in ME, is exhibiting its complete product range in paper and boards at the Paper Arabia exhibition. This will include fine, packaging and publishing papers.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, Mepco Gulf’s managing director, Fadi Baaklini said: “We are participating for the second time now after a good response from the first exhibition. We saw many focused people from the region visiting last year, which we really appreciated,” he added.

Talking about the paper trend in the Middle East region, Baaklini said that the demand had slowed down because of the recent economic slowdown.

“Many mills have reduced their capacity and some of them are also closing down. This has resulted in a paper shortage and, consequently, a price increase.”

He added: “Many of the European mills are booked until end of the year. In the Far East. China has injected much money into the local market and mills are also booked until the end of year.”

Baaklini added that Mepco Gulf would open a new office in Lebanon in November this year to serve Levant countries. It expected a volume of about “50,000 metric tonnes”.
