The Printing and Publishing Group (PPG), operating under the auspices of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, announced the upcoming fourth ‘Dubai International Print Awards for 2009, during a press conference held at the Chamber premises.

Addressing members of the press, Ahmad Bin Hassan Al Shaikh, chairman of PPG said, “This year’s awards are going to be bigger as we have added new award categories. We are expecting more than 700 nominations across various categories from the region and I would like to thank all our sponsors for supporting this annual event. The award ceremony, which started as an initiative to commemorate companies operating in UAE’s printing industry for management efficiency and technological advancements, will now cover other regions including the GCC, Lebanon and Egypt.

“New award categories have been introduced this year like the Flyers-direct mail category under digital printing and the brochures & catalogues and handicraft jobs category under offset printing,” said Tarek Jawharji, CEO, Color Lines Group.

When questioned why there was no focus on the environmental aspects, he explained, “We did not involve the environmental aspects this year since we felt it would not be possible for judges to visit the press.  With participants in the contest coming from the international arena, physical visits would be difficult especially with the limited time available to take decisions.”

The event will be held in 12 weeks across the region with the final award ceremony taking place on January 27, 2010, at Grand Hyatt-Dubai, to be attended by senior government dignitaries and organisations from the printing and publishing sector.
