Due to an increase in its order position especially in Q-4 2009, Dubai based digital printer, Prolab Digital has invested in HP’s large format 3.2-meter printer, Scitex XL1500.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, CEO of the company, Jayne Reader said: “We have a new contract in Abu Dhabi for which we were in need of one more machine. We wanted to give higher output in less time and that prompted us to install this machine.”

The company already has two Scitex printers of 3.2 and 5-meter widths and a 3.2 meter UV flatbed Vutek printer.

“We liked the quality of the printer and our staff knows how to use it well. We have also received good back up from the distributors with their technical service engineers offering us good after sales service and telephone assistance which added to the decision,” Reader added.

The machine was installed at their Duabi plant in the first week of December.

The company has 62 employees and is planning to open a new marketing office in Abu Dhabi, in the coming year.

Reader added that the company was badly affected by the financial crisis, especially during two months in June and July this year.

“There was a decline in outdoor adverts. But since August, business has started picking up and now our position is fairly satisfactory. We hope this trend will continue in the New Year,” Reader added.

The company plans to invest in latex technology in the New Year. “We are also looking for latex printer which we hope to buy within the next six months,” Reader concluded.

The 25-year-old company started as a conventional commercial photo lab. In 1993 they entered the large format digital printing market and currently supply to GCC countries.
