Canon has launched its new 1.5m-wide imagePrograf Pro-6000 large-format printer, which it says is the largest in its range to use 12 colours.
Intended for advertisements, graphics and indoor and outdoor posters, the new machine  is an update on Canon’s Pro-6000S, launched alongside a number of new Arizona UV flatbed machines at last year’s Fespa Digital. It joins the Pro-1000, Pro-2000 and Pro-4000 in the series, all of which are smaller models.
“The Pro-6000 will accompany the Pro-6000S as a 60-inch (1.5m) wide-format printer specifically aimed at the photo, fine art, proofing and graphics market segments,” said Canon head of AEC and manufacturing Dominic Fahy.
“It expands our current Pro Series range, which as it stands covers 17-inches to 60-inches, giving users the ability to own multiple sized printers all with the same printhead, ink and image processor, helping to ensure the same high quality across the line.”
The 12-colour Pro-6000 prints one A0 sheet in just more than 90 seconds, at a resolution of 2,400dpi.
It takes sheets of glossy, matte and fine art paper from 200mm to 1.5m at thicknesses of between 0.1mm and 0.8mm. Sheets are fed from Canon’s Multifunctional Roll System (MRS), which enables users to load glossy media in one roll and matte media in the other, without the requirement to manually switch the media.
“Highlights that set this model apart from the crowd include its 60-inch print width and the ability to feed from the only standard MRS in its class,” added Fahy.
Its ink system consists of CMY plus grey, red, blue, matte black, photo black, photo cyan, photo magenta, photo grey and a Chroma Optimizer ink, which Fahy said dramatically improves the depth of black ink while reducing gloss differential. It uses Pro-Series printheads integrated with Canon Bubblejet on demand technology, with more than 1,500 nozzles per colour.
