Jordan Press Foundation buys double width KBA Commander

Amman based, Jordan Press Foundation (JPF) has placed an order for double-width KBA Commander heatset press for printing newspapers, semi-commercials and hybrid products.

The Commander will be installed at a new production complex near Amman airport that will include a new mailroom and central store. Jordan Press expects the machine to be installed in one year.

French newspaper in Lebanon has upgraded

Lebanon based, french publication, L'Orient-Le Jour has signed an agreement with Layout International to acquire the latest workflow solution known as NewsPress.

NewsPress is asoftware designed by Layout specifically for newspapers and magazines, it was learnt. It allows editors, department heads, sub-editors, correctors, production teams, chief editors and designers to log on to a single centralised server in order to process their daily work.

Masterpak's eco initiatives

Masterpak, a plastic Polyethylene (PE) film manufacturer based in Lebanon has announced that it will further integrate environmentally friendly practices in its daily operations, it was learnt.

Masterpak said that it recycles 100 per cent of its PE waste and re-uses it to reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials, energy usage and water pollution.

The administration has already adopted energy saving practices, which include simple initiatives, such as turning off power-consuming appliances

Media sales representatives of the Economist Group, Alef Publishing and and Media has opened a regional office in Beirut to cater to business in five countries: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Iraq.

Beirut media city in pipeline as investment firm launches plan

A new media city could be in the pipeline for Beirut in Lebanon, adding to the growing number of media cities being set up in the Middle East.

An investment firm based in Beirut, Kuv Capital, says it has launched an initiative for the proposed media city where software developers and others in the creative sector can set up shop.

Unipak installs processing line and solvent recovery system

The Lebanon-based Unipak has installed a photopolymer processing line Cyrel 3000 and a cleaning and solvent recovery system from DW Renzmann.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, business development director of Indevco Paper Containers, Antoine Douaiher said: “Our motive was to increase the production capacity at this plant. We have also invested in a flexible packaging flexo press from Comexi.”

Vartan Printing Solutions invests in new machine due to expansion

Lebanon-based printer, Vartan Printing Solutions has purchased a four-colour Heidelberg CD 102.

Poll shows half of Jordanians do not read ‘any publication’

Findings of a recently released poll show that around half of Jordanians do not read any publication, while less than a quarter said that they had read a daily newspaper within the 24 hours leading up to the survey. This according to various online media reports.

The study, which was part of a USAID-funded Jordan Media Strengthening Programme which is affiliated with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), included 3,600 Jordanians over 15 years of age.

Lebanon Daily Star on stands again after two week closure 2009-02-01 15

Lebanon’s Daily Star newspaper has resumed publication after it was forced to shut down for two weeks.
The publication, which is one of the oldest English dailies in the region, was forced to shut down after a Lebanese court declared it bankrupt.
That’s according to an online report that the newspaper was in a legal dispute with  Standard Chartered PLC over a $1.7 million debt.
The paper closed its doors on January 14 - the fourth time that it has temporarily shut down
