Sun Chemical has obtained both the Greenguard and the higher Greenguard Gold Certification for its Streamline range of eco-solvent HPQ LO alternative inkjet inks for the wide format sector. Launch of ink alternative to Roland Eco Sol Max II

Atlantic Tech Services (ATS) has launched inks for use in a host of Roland printers.

The ColourSure 2 solvent inks are targeted at users of all Roland Pro 4, XF-640, XR-640, RF-640 and VersaCAMM VSi series printers.

The new product is a direct alternative to Roland Eco Sol Max II products and was formulated to be colour compatible with them.

Lexmark South Africa has launched its new Lexmark Cartridge Collection Program (LCCP) App, an intuitive mobile application which leverages Lexmark technology to empower businesses to revolutionise their recycling processes.

Ricoh launches new eco-friendly AR latex inks at Fespa 2016

To address the demands of its sign and display graphics customer base, Ricoh has launched its own aqueous resin (AR) latex ink for the Ricoh ProTM L4100 series of large format printers at Fespa Digital, Amsterdam, held between March 8th to 11th.

Veika to launch new Decojet textures Fespa

Lithuanian manufacturer Veika is set to unveil additions to its Decojet product range next year.

The firm will debut new textures from its Decojet Eco PVC-free digital wallcovering media range at Fespa Digital 2016 in Amsterdam in March.

Nine textures in the range have been commercially available in the UK since September, while three new textures – Decoleather, Decosand and Decodrift – will be launched at the show, and then shown at Drupa in May.

Roland DG introduces wave of new Eco inks

Roland DG has launched EUV4 Eco-UV ink, developed specifically for use with its VersaUV UV-LED inkjet printers, and Eco-Sol Max 3, a new generation ink for use with its eco-solvent printer-cutter range.

The EUV4 Eco-UV ink, which is available from the end of October, is cured by exposure to UV light.

Heidelberg shows LED UV option, says it’s the most energy efficient’

Heidelberg has described its newly launched LED option as the “most energy-efficient LED UV system on the market”.

The firm showed an LED UV press for the first time in the UK.  The LED drying system has been available for two years in other territories, and Heidelberg has more than 20 presses installed in Japan, where there is an energy-saving imperative for businesses. It also has LED presses installed in Switzerland and Germany.

FSC celebrates 20th anniversary, promotes sustainability

The Forest Stewardship Council is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month and has commended the print industry for its support.

A spokeswoman heaped praise on print for embracing the certification but warned more was needed to increase its uptake.

After two decades, more than 180m ha of forests are FSC-certified, including more than half of the forest area in the UK.

Around 300m cubic meters of FSC-certified wood are harvested every year, 17% of the global industrial roundwood market

Stora Enso divests two of its European mills

Stora Enso has announced the sale of its Barcelona mill to the private equity fund Quantum for a total cash consideration of EUR 10 million. The mill which produces the recycled fibre-based consumer board.

According to a report in PaperAge, this divestment is in line with Stora Enso’s strategy to focus its consumer board offering on high quality virgin-fibre products.

The sale of the Barcelone mill will decrease Stora Enso’s annual board production capacity by approximately 195,000 tonnes

Agfa introduces its new violet chemistry-free plate, N95-VCF

Agfa Graphics will launch its new N95-VCF chemistry-free violet offset plate this month.  The manufacturer will debut the plate, which is already being used by selected customers, at the World Publishing Expo 2015 in Hamburg, Germany from 5-7 October. Atlantic unveils latest solvent inks

Atlantic Tech Services has launched a new range of wide-format solvent inks suitable for indoor and outdoor uses and can withstand long periods of outdoor exposure, the company said. The inks are also said to be environmentally friendly without compromising on print quality.

Atlantic said the inks were an alternative to Roland Eco-Sol Max, Mutoh Eco Ultra and Mimaki ES-3 Eco Solvent ink formulations.

James Cropper unveils new paper, expresses confidence for future

Cumbrian papermaker James Cropper has launched a new bright white paper range called Porcelain.

The new paper and board range is available now in five sizes, and nine weights, 80gsm to 500gsm, including three, 250, 300 and 330gsm.

Commercial director Chris Brown said Porcelain was “very high white, has wonderful smoothness and great touch.”

He said it would be ideal for corporate brochures, greeting cards and high-end stationery such as invitations.

Caraustar hikes prices of recycled grades

Caraustar Industries recently announced a price increase of $45 per ton on all uncoated recycled paperboard and container board grades and $50 per ton on all coated recycled paperboard grades.

The increase on uncoated recycled paperboard and containerboard grades will be effective starting with shipments on September 8, 2015 and the increase on coated recycled paperboard grades will be effective starting with shipments on August 24, 2015.

APP to increase supply of PEFC certified products

Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) is to sell paper and board made from PEFC-certified Indonesian wood fibre for the first time. 

The move, expected by the end of the year, follows the award of Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) certification to cover 306,400 hectares of APP suppliers’ plantations.

Sun Chemical’s SunJet division has won the Stationers’ Company overall Innovator of the Year Award for its low-migration inkjet ink, which is safe to use for food packaging.

   Its SunJet EtiJet UV inks for narrow-web and labels, and Amphora range for packaging, only contain materials that are on approved lists and comply with the Swiss Ordinance standard.

BPIF relaxes ISO standard for spectrophotometers

The BPIF has issued a call for views on the calibration of spectrophotometers following a decision to pull back on requirements for BPIF ISO 12647 accreditation.  Up until now the BPIF has required companies wishing to attain the ISO standard to get their spectrophotometers tested every year to laboratory standards, by a facility which must be accredited to ISO 17025.
