Bobst reduces pre-tax loss with rise in orders

Converting equipment firm Bobst has said orders have almost returned to 2008 levels after reducing its pre-tax loss by two thirds in the first half of the year.

The Swiss firm reported sales of CHF560m for the six months to 30 June, up 20% on the same period in 2009. Pre-tax loss fell from CHF81m to CHF27m.

In its trading statement, Bobst said: "During the period, order entries improve significantly compared to 2009 and are close to the level reached during the first half of 2008."

Pitney Bowes launches novel approach to envelope making

Finishing equipment manufacturer Pitney Bowes has launched an enveloping line that features no envelopes.

The WrapStar series, which comprises the WrapStar 20 and WrapStar 30, combines paper-wrapping machines with Pitney Bowes software to produce personalised mailings.

According to the company, the machines feature a number of advantages over rival machines, including full-colour envelope printing, high personalisation, and stock and waste eradication as envelopes will not need to be stored.


Buhrs falls to administrators as bank removes credit facility

Finishing equipment manufacturer Buhrs has had to call in the administrators after its banking provider pulled its credit facility.

Michel Moeijes of Lawyers Tanger was appointed to work with Buhrs Mailing Solutions on Monday (28 June), while a German firm, LTS, has been appointed to handle Buhrs German subsidiaries, Buhrs-ITM and Betron.

Digital finishing manufacturer Morgana Systems has launched the DigiFold Pro creaser/folder at Ipex.

The company said that the machine, which can handle up to 6,000 sheets per hour, will set new standards for productivity and ease of use.

As well as running creasing and folding in a single pass, it can act as a stand-alone creaser or perforator.

It uses Morgana's PosiFeed feeding system, which enables it to handle lighter papers and allow feeders to be stacked higher.

Mailing equipment manufacturer Pitney Bowes has teamed up with HP to offer colour printing for high-volume transactional mail.

Pitney Bowes will be using the HP T300 Inkjet engine, which was re-branded from the HP Inkjet Web Press, in its IntelliJet Printing System. The T300 was launched at Print 09 in Chicago this September, but is already available worldwide. Initial installations are expected in early 2010.

A stand alone cross cutter for any sheet fed laminator is developed

Autobond has developed a stand alone cross cutter.

Called the CC 76, it can be used with any make of sheet-fed laminator or encapsulator, the first time the manufacturer has introduced a product that can be integrated with competitors’ equipment. Mailing equipment manufacturer Neopost has launched its latest high-volume mailing line.

According to Neopost, the DS-1200 is a modular machine that can be added to as demand for mailing increases.
