J.Vilaseca ups paper prices

Spanish specialty papermaker J.Vilaseca announced that it will increase the price on all its paper lines by EUR 50 per metric ton. The price increase is effective from 1st March.
In a press release, Carles Torredemer, sales manager, said, "The continuous increase in the price of cellulose, energy and other raw materials, exacerbated by excess demand, continues to cause a continuous deterioration of profitability, so we are forced to announce an increase of [EUR 50 per ton] in all our ranges."

Packaging giant Coveris has invested £3m in its cartonboard division. The international packaging manufacturer invested in a raft of new machinery, site refurbishment, upgrades to existing equipment and a new staff training programme for 2017.  The new machinery, which includes a six-colour Komori GLX-640 with coater, two Jagenberg Diana glue lines, a Heiber & Schröder window patcher and an Iberica cutter-creaser, should all be operational by summer 2017. Stora Enso announced the divestment of its 100% shareholding in its Finnish subsidiary Formeca Oy, a provider of machines for automated packaging lines, to Amitec Oy, an engineering and machine construction company based in Finland.

One of the print industry’s fastest growing sectors is set to experience slower growth over the next five years but is nevertheless expected to be worth more than $269bn by 2021.
For 2009 to 2015, volume consumption of corrugated board grew on average by 4.3% annually but this is expected to decrease to 3.6% annually in 2016 to 2021, according to Smithers Pira, which said the sector will suffer from a combination of factors in the next five years.

A Christmas card with 44,000 variations

Iggesund Paperboard’s tradition of producing sophisticated Christmas cards continues. This year Iggesund has created a snowflake that can be folded in many thousands of possible variations, from crystal white to winter blue colours.

Foil and laminate manufacturer API Group has acquired Netherlands-based Amsterdam Metallized Products (AMP).
The deal completed on 1st December after talks started in the summer between API chief executive Dino Kiriakopoulos and AMP managing director Pim Honig. Financial details were undisclosed.

Gallus has taken inspiration from some of the design principles used in parent Heidelberg’s Speedmaster presses for its latest label printing press.
