New halftone dot for flexo, letterpress out

The new Flexodot 4800 can create extremely small and precise halftone dots that are suitable for output at high resolutions up to 4,800 dpi and can produce natural-looking gradations, even in the extreme highlight areas. The dots are significantly smaller than those used in 2,400 dpi production.

Octal Holdings to build facilities in Europe, US

Oman PET resin and sheet supplier Octal Holdings has said it will build sheet production facilities in Western Europe and the US in the next two years.

Octal expects export sales to grow from $400m this year to $1.1bn by 2011. Around two thirds of the firm's exports currently go to Europe and 30% is sold to the US. China has also been targeted as an area for growth and Octal has a sales office in Shanghai.

Clifton Packaging is set to tie up a landmark partnership agreement with the Ugandan government to supply water purification systems across the country.

Producers of plastics for packaging in the Middle East are targeting overseas growth, according to research firm Applied Market Information.

AMI said that domestic demand growth in the region was still strong and that several large investment projects showed that firms were now "investigating the potential" for international business.
