Ahmed Fathy from Ricoh talks about their GPP participation

Digital industry already took the world in storm. Did you feel the tremor in the industry in terms of volumes?
Indeed yes – In many countries in the Middle East region digital volumes are growing rapidly and this is for many reasons, such as volume per job is more in digital favour, delivery time is crucial, customization & personalization is heavily required, quality and media variety are also in digital favour.

There is a saying that packaging/commercial jobs don’t have big margins so we need to have big volumes to recover the high investment. Have you tried changing the margin aspect?
I agree and disagree. If the packaging/commercial service providers  decided to add values to the awarded jobs, they can enjoy better margins and we are helping them to do so by our unique products and solutions.

One of the permanent challenges is the rising cost of the raw materials for the suppliers/printers. In which way, Ricoh is supporting them?
This is related to the previous question,   you have to differentiate yourself against your competitors and this is related to both suppliers and service providers. Our aim is to help our customers having unique offerings to their end-users which will reduce the pressure on margins and any rising costs.
 
What is the single biggest way to change the packaging sector in the coming years?
Customized & personalized packaging        
 
What is your opinion about label printing industry? Do you think that the distributors/dealers need to have some education sessions regarding the AI, security, workplace of the future, talent development, humanization in technology and much more?
It is one of the growing areas in printing industry, agree that distributors/dealers needs a lot of education.
 
Since how many years you have been participating in Gulf Print & Pack? As we are nearing to Expo2020, what’s your expectation from the upcoming edition?
Actually this is the first time for Ricoh to participate as Ricoh, in the previous editions we were participating through our Strategic Partners’ in UAE. I believe Expo is an excellent opportunity for printing industry in UAE, with the expected number of visitors and new companies will launch their operations, for sure the demand of printing will raise, commercial printers should be ready for this.

How was 2018 for your company and overall how did the industry perform in 2018?
Ricoh Middle East did well in FY 2018 which just closed, as we are closing our fiscal year on March 31st. Overall did a decent growth in digital production print business in terms of units and revenue, in a major country like Saudi Arabia we achieved number one market share in colour production for 2018 calendar year as per IDC report.

What are the technologies/products you are going to showcase?
We are going to showcase more than 4 products at the show and they are Pro C9210, Pro C7200X, Pro C7200SL, Pro C5200S and Pro L4160. Apart from this Color Logic solutions and Fusion Pro Adobe Acrobat  plug-in will also be displayed at the booth.
