EFI Vutek has added a lower cost UV flatbed printer to its range, which pitches it against mid-market machines such as the Oc Arizona, Fujifilm Sericol Acuity, Mimaki JFX and Screen Truepress Jet1600UV-F.

The QS220 fills a gap between the bottom of the previous Vutek line up and sister firm Rasteks products. It is a 2m-wide machine capable of up to 70m2/hour output and a maximum resolution of 1,080dpi.

"More and more businesses are exploring out-of-home advertising as a way to reach customers, but unfortunately many print businesses are forced to choose between high production speeds and high image quality," said Vutek general manager Dick Wissenbach.

"The QS220 is an all-in-one printer; it has the speed to print 16, 4x8 boards per hour as well as the ability to print in high definition.

"This is a great time to be involved in superwide format printing, and with pricing comparable to wide format printers, the QS220 is not only affordable, its a smart investment for any print business," he said.

It is based on the companys established QS2000 machine, but is supplied as a flatbed only rather than a hybrid machine. An optional roll-to-roll upgrade is available, should users wish to add that functionality at a later date.

The price of the new machine is set at €149,000 ($210,600).
