Canon has added a new top-of-the-range model to its imagePress cut-sheet colour digital printer family that prints at 100ppm.

The imagePress C10000VP ships from October and was seen for the first time in Europe at Canon Expo in Paris.

It is the firm’s first 100ppm colour print engine. The fastest imagePress in the range up until now printed at 80ppm.

The C10000VP is targeted at commercial printers and inplant printing departments. It prints in CMYK at full rated speed on uncoated stock from 60-350gsm, and on coated grades from 70-350gsm. It handles a maximum paper size of 330x762mm and also handles specialist media, such as synthetics. The resolution is 2,400dpi.

Duplex A4 speed is the same as for single-sided, and the monthly duty cycle is 1.5m pages.

While the device uses the same Consistently Vivid (CV) toner as the existing imagePress C800 model, it has a new developer unit and reduced fusing temperature for improved colour consistency and accuracy.

Also new is an inline spectrophotometer for colour calibration, and European and UK product marketing manager Adrian  Campomanses said the use of a second transfer belt meant there was no material deformation and improved registration accuracy. New registration control technology delivers front-to-back registration tolerance of 0.5mm.

An air knife separates lightweight stocks to avoid jamming, which Campomanses said was particularly attractive for potential users in the direct mail sector.

It can be driven by Canon’s own Prismasync front-end or by EFI’s latest Fiery, the FS200.  Inline finishing options include a new creasing function and punching unit.

Since the ImagePress line was launched in 2006, 40,000 have been installed worldwide, with more than 2000 C800 series devices sold in Europe since its launch in July 2014.
