Kodak awarded its own customer, The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as the winner of the 2015 Sonora Plate Green Leaf Award for the Middle East and Africa region. The award recognizes organizations that are committed to integrating green practices into their operations to achieve reductions in their environmental impact.
The UNECA, which was founded in 1958 as one of the UN’s five regional commissions, has a mandate to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa’s development.
The organization publishes and prints numerous reports, studies, and papers in support of this mission while also providing printing services to other UN Agencies based in Ethiopia and the African Union Commission.
By transitioning its pre-press operations from chemistry-based to process free computer-to-plate technology, the UNECA has eliminated all the processing steps associated with traditional plate making, reducing water and energy consumption, while minimizing waste and chemical pollution said Kodak.
