Durst has added metallic effects to its Tau 330 label press and is in the process of doing the same for its Omega II wide-format printer, thanks to a partnership with Color-Logic.
This means users of Durst's Tau 330 will now be able to print metallic effects with Durst's white ink plus CMYK on a foil substrate using Color-Logic's process metallic colour system.
Durst Labels & Package Printing segment manager Helmuth Munter said: "Our partnership with Color-Logic ensures that Durst customers using the Tau 330 label press can successfully implement the latest in metallic label technology.
"Durst has tested the Color-Logic system in our laboratories and are convinced that the process produces the highest quality printing on metallic substrate. Graphic designers and brand managers can confidently specify the Color-Logic process for production on the Durst Tau 330."
While these initial wide-format tests were said to have produced "excellent samples", further testing will be required before Omega II users can also print metallics using the Color-Logic system.
Durst confirmed that it is still offering the metallic silver UV ink that was launched in August 2012 for the Tau press. "We are offering different solutions for different applications, as many clients do not want to invest in an extra print module for metallic ink if there are other suitable solutions available that allow them to cover their application needs in regard to metallic," said Munter.
