
HP has announced the launch of the HP Scitex 15000 Corrugated Press alongside a raft of other product news all geared towards strengthening its position in the packaging sector. The launch represents the latest action in HP's assault on the $11bn global packaging market, just 7% of which is currently printed digitally according to Infotrends.
HP senior vice-president, Graphics and Inkjet Solutions Business, Stephen Nigro said: "After leading the shift to digital in label printing, HP is again driving an unstoppable analogue-to-digital transformation in the package printing industry.
"With HP solutions, packaging converters can capture the benefits of digital printing to diversify business models, reach new customers and explore new profit areas."
The HP Scitex 15000 Corrugated Press has a maximum print area of 1.6x3.2m and can print up to 120 beds per hour, giving it a maximum output of 600sqm/hr in PROD120 mode.
For point of purchase (POP) displays, the HP Scitex 15000 has three production modes: POP60 (60 beds/312sqm per hour); POP80 (80 beds/407sqm per hour); and POP100 (100 beds/520sqm per hour).
It is equipped with an automatic loader for corrugated board that can handle up to four media stacks side-by-side and can handle a wide variety of other substrates using manual loading, ranging from acrylics and foam PVC to compressed cardboard. The printer uses HP's HDR240 Scitex inks.
