Comment: The print sector must play fair in the game of pricing
The summer is almost over. Is it just me, or did it fly by? Perhaps the tension and anxiety of the last few months’ economic downturn kept our minds on things other than the hot weather. Like keeping presses running. And paying staff on time.
But it turns out the Middle East and North Africa weathered the recession better than even they expected, I think. Not that it’s over – but judging by the relief creeping back into the voices of general managers and manufacturers (and by the stack of news growing on our desks!), the region’s print sector is pushing through better than expected. Especially when compared to other countries. Now the trick is keeping up the good work. One way to make sure we do is by playing fair in the game of pricing.
In our News Analysis piece this month we’re asking whether it’s the print buyers or printers that are to blame for the industry’s dramatic price cuts. It’s a contentious issue with some people pointing fingers at print buyers and others claiming it’s the printers at fault.
Everyone has their opinion about who it might be. We’d love to hear from you and there are a number of ways you can contact us, starting with popping us an email at [email protected] Please send us your stories – funny or serious!
It’s an exciting time to be in the MEA’s print industry and judging by the conviction shown in the last few months, we can all look forward to more exhilarating times ahead.
Finally, to all of our readers –Ramadan Kareem.
