Other: Al Firdous PP revamps binding line to cater to book demand

Sohar (Oman) based Al Firdous Printing Press has invested in Welbound 2000 OB 6 Clamp perfect biding machine.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, Nikhil Dauria, managing director said: "We have demand for educational books and we needed a binder for quick turnaround. With this we can bid for larger quantities and get more sales."

The 2000 cycles per hour WB 2000, the 6-clamp perfect binder is suited for production jobs. The maximum book size is 440 mm x 250 mm with spine thickness is 3 to 50 mm. The binder has a special type-milling cutter, which removes paper in strips form, which can get commercial value and avoids generation of paper dust.

Three roller gluing system of binder with reverse spinner has calibrated head and tail end which cut-offs to avoid adhesive squeeze out. Also it has a separate side gluing station with tank and gluing discs. A thin and even layer of glue is spread along the side adding value to the book finish. There is a automatic pile type cover feeder with on-line creasing attachment. Binder also comes with "No book-No cover" system for continuous flow of clamps to the feed-in station.

Firdous Printing Press is increasing its capacity in publishing and packaging segment with focus on text books and carton packaging.

The company is 10 years old and current management took over it in November 2009. The parent company owns Ruwi Modern Printing Press in Muscat, Oman. "We took over the company at peak of recession so got it at good rate. We trusted our experience, as we are in Omani business for last 28 years," he said.

Talking about the current trend he said that many Dubai and Sharjah based companies are taking over jobs from Oman.

Company was formed in 2000 and has 54 employees.
